What is the difference between Botox and Fillers? This is a common question and frequently misunderstood. Botox is a neuromodulator (neurotoxin) which is used to treat and prevent fine lines and wrinkles. It works by blocking nerve signals which results in relaxing the targeted muscle. Results are not immediate and take up to 14 days to see optimal results. Botox can also treat excessive sweating (hyperhydrosis) and enlarged muscle (hypertrophy). Botox results typically last 3-5 months. Facial or dermal fillers work to improve volume loss, corrects structural integrity and plumps/fills wrinkles. Hyaluronic Acid fillers increase hydration improving skin appearance. Dermal fillers provide an instant result which typically last 6 months to 2 years depending on specific filler used. HA fillers are reversible should the product want to be dissolved.

Why do cosmetic injectable prices vary from provider to provider? I've seen low prices on Groupon, can you match that price?Various factors will influence pricing on aesthetic treatments such as skill level of the provider, the cost of product and access to collaborating providers should additional consultation be necessary. As a member of Medical Aesthetic Associates, Aesthetic Nurse Jen provides clients with only FDA approved/cleared products for which she has received advanced training and a support team which is designed to ensure successful results. She continues to train regularly to bring clients the best in medical aesthetics. Groupon is not offered nor discounted pricing unless advertised as such. Often the best value can be found in finding a provider who prioritizes you in which case the search is over! Be cautious of finding hugely discounted pricing which could lead to non-FDA approved products in the hands of unlicensed providers who disappear once the service is rendered.

I've heard about different types of botox and fillers, which is right for me?There are several FDA approved products on the market. They are all good when used correctly. A consultation with your provider, will help steer us in the direction for which product would be best for you. The consultation is just as important as the treatment. This is where we can customize the treatment to achieve the desired results.

How do I know which treatment is right for me?A simply consultation with your medical aesthetics provider will steer you in the right direction to achieve your desired goals. Often, combination treatments are useful to deliver an overall improvement. Good skincare, smoothing wrinkles, restoring volume, skin tightening offer a multi-step approach which compliment each other and improved overall outcome.

If I stop using Botox, will my wrinkles get worse? If you should chose to stop using Botox your wrinkles will not get worse simply due to discontinuing the Botox! However, you/we will all continue to age during this no-botox period and that could mean wrinkles continue as the natural aging process continues. The hands of time continue to tick forward for all of us. The same principle applies with fillers! As fillers metabolize over time, we don't experience worsening volume loss or sag related to the filler rather the natural aging process including loss of collagen, elastin, bone.

Who is a good candidate for a medical aesthetic treatment?Consenting adult seeking to maintain or improve skin quality, texture and appearance could be a suitable candidate for an aesthetic treatment. Your provider will review your health history and provide guidance on appropriate treatment options. Both women and men are consumers of aesthetic treatments, as they seek to gain an improved sense of appearance, health and wellbeing. The days of only the elite secretly getting "work done" are being replaced with your neighbor, friend, spouse, male/female proudly sharing with others what they've recently done that has everyone wondering how they look so great! In fact, Botox has become so popular that the word can be found used as a noun or verb! My forehead looks so good because I got it toxed! Kevin appears more rested since Aesthetic Nurse Jen administered the Botox!

If I get botox or filler will I look overdone? I don't want duck lips, puffy cheeks or scary eyebrows.A natural appearing result which offers balance and honors ones attributes is always the goal. Even if requested, we don't offer an over done look. Often, at the time of initial treatment we will err one the side of caution so that we don't end up with an undesired result. At the follow up consultation, we may decide you need additional product. This is not a mistake at the first visit rather opportunity to learn how you respond to the product and finding "your dose". Though these are considered aesthetic treatments, they are medications which require prescribing orders and dosing will vary from person to person. Working consistently with a trusted provider, who takes the time to understand how you respond to different products, will help determine best approach and outcomes for future treatments.

Is there any benefit to regular Botox treatments?Yes there is! When we use neuromodulators such as Botox we quiet the muscle movement which will cause an atrophy or weakening of the muscle. Over time this weakened muscle may be less able to reproduce the original movement and resulting wrinkles. Sometimes this means the doses needs to be adjusted down (and lower overall cost). Keeping up on regular Botox treatments ensures consistent results and happy clients!
